Quick Background: Rylee is the youngest daughter of Ban Trevelyan and his wife Nessa in the free city of Oswtick. Born 6 years after their previous child and some what sickly, she was raised rather spoilt. However at a young age, she manifested magical abilities. She grew up in the Ostwick Circle of Magi and was close to the Grand Enchantress whom she saw as a surrogate mother. Rylee enjoyed learning magic but often felt bored and trapped in the tower, though she also feared the outside world. The Circle was rather sedate and her family close to the Chantry, so she didn't resent or fear the Templars as many mages do. When the rebellion broke out, Rylee felt conflicted about what to do and decided to remain with her neutral tower. Unfortunately, eventually the Ostwick mages were forced to flee and join the peace summit at the Temple of Sacred Ashes... which is where it all begins.
Personality: Rylee is... young. Very young. She's intelligent but very naive about the ways of the world and often finds herself frustrated when it doesn't work out the way she wishes it should. At first as Herald, she is excited to have power and fame and to help people, only to realize that it can be quite thankless job and sometimes people even resent you for it. She has a tendency to make emotional decisions quickly and then agonize over them later.
She has somewhat of an identity struggle being both a mage and a Trevelyan, close to her family which is in turn close to the Chantry. She's not exactly a believer but she doesn't disbelieve either. Her affection for her family, along with her relatively privileged experience at Oswtick's Circle, leads her to side with the Templars at Therenfal with the belief that some of her family is at risk there. She is able to overcome the envy demon in a battle of wills but spends time agonizing over if she made the right choice and should have instead moved with her fellow mages. But she also wants to work to reform the order and the Chantry to the benefit of many.
Eventually she starts to learn that she has to make the best decision she can at any given time and live with that choice. She wants very much for everyone to both like and respect her but learns that sometimes getting both is impossible. The battle at and loss of Haven is a huge turning point for her when she realizes she must work harder to control her temper and emotions and to stand behind by her own decisions.
Aware of her youth, she likes to keep a laid back, sardonic persona up to most people so they can't easily "read" her. In reality, she is much more upbeat and less dry about how she teases people. Rylee is empathetic towards others and goes out of her way to help the people that she's close to but is generally closed off to strangers. She's somewhat of a romantic and is very taken with adventure and love like in her favorite story books.
Though generally upbeat and humorous, she gets frustrated if things don't go her way and people are dishonest and will lash out if she feels disrespected. Which is self-defeating in the face of how much she wants people to respect her. Thankfully, she has a natural determination that underlies most of her actions and allows her to get
